Samsung Galaxy S9: All You Need to Know
Samsung Galaxy S9, the company’s upcoming flagship phone, is rumored to be unveiled at CES 2018. Codenamed “Star”, the Galaxy S9 is rumored to have 5.8in or 6.2in QHD+ Super AMOLED curved display (570ppi / 529ppi) and is predicted to run Android 8.0 ‘O’.
The Galaxy S9 is also rumored to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 or Samsung Exynos with Cat 18 LTE support (1.2Gbps download speeds). Other rumor suggest that the Galaxy S9 will have embedded fingerprint scanner on the display and will be equipped with dual rear-facing camera, Bixby AI assistant with dedicated button and will be completed with USB-C.
Recent reports claim that Samsung has already started production of the Galaxy S9. So we can expect to see the handset debut earlier next year. According to a report from Korea’s The Bell, Samsung is already working on the Samsung Galaxy S9 under the codenames of ‘Star’ and ‘Star 2’.
Other report from Korea’s The Investor in September, said that the Galaxy S9’s displays will be ready by November, so we can expect to see the handset launched earlier than the usual date. The company’s current handset, the Galaxy S8 was launched in March, with its displays reportedly having arrived in January. So we can expect to see the Galaxy S9 to debut on January or February in 2018.
Samsung’s current flagship phone, the Galaxy S8, arrives with an impressive Infinity look. The Galaxy Note 8 also arrives with the same design. Therefore, we can predicted that the Galaxy S9 will arrive with an impressive Infinity look as well. The dual edge display with no home button, and of course we also expect to see a panel that covers a large part of the S9’s front.
Samsung Galaxy S9 is rumored to be powered by Qualcomm’s 10nm Snapdragon 845 processor for the US models or Exynos 9th series CPU for the global models. As for the memory Samsung expected to put at least 6GB of RAM.
Galaxy S9 display might not arrive with fingerprint sensor but the phone is expected to have a faster and better iris scanner gets. We also expect to see 4K UHD pixel resolution on the S9 as it will bring a much better visual experience as well as better Gear VR ecosystem. However, no words from reliable source about it just yet.
Samsung Galaxy Note S8 arrives with huge improvement in camera so we can expect to see the S9 to get at least the same great camera or even a better dual camera setup with improvements on aperture, optical zoom or widen the angle of view.
The Galaxy S9 is expected to be released with Samsung Experience UX 9.0. Samsung’s current note series, the Note 8, arrives with SE 8.5, while the S8 arrives with SE 8.1. Of course, the Galaxy S9 will run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.
The Galaxy S9 is predicted to have the same App Pair function just like we have seen on the Note 8. The app allows users to add shortcuts to the phone’s edge display, bringing two apps in multi window mode. The S9 will surely have new features, of course, but so little is known to date.
According to SamMobile, Samsung Galaxy S9 will be made available in four colour options: black, gold, blue and purple. However, the site also noted that there’s a high chance this isn’t the final list of colours as the company might also add other color options, Orchid Gray and Arctic Silver.
So, when is the Galaxy S9 out? The Galaxy S8 was revealed on March 29 with April 21 release date. Recent rumors suggest that the Galaxy S9 will be unveiled at CES 2018. However, Samsung might also use Mobile World Congress to unveil the S9. The event will run from February 26 to March 1, 2018.
